Plaça d’Espanya in Barcelona
When I planned my first trip to Barcelona, I made a list of must-see landmarks and top attractions. Still, picking the right neighborhood to stay in was the hardest part.
After a lot of research, I decided to stay near Plaça d’Espanya (Pl. Espanya), and it turned out to be the best travel choice I made. This lively area sits at the southern edge of the city center and offers great convenience, beautiful architecture, and easy access to Barcelona’s main sights. Here are six reasons why staying near Plaça d’Espanya is perfect for first-time visitors and how it made my trip even better.

1. Direct Airport Transfer: Airbus A1 in Just 25 Minutes

Getting from the airport to your hotel can be stressful, but staying near Plaça d’Espanya makes it easy. The Airport Express Bus (A1) takes you straight to the square in just 25 minutes.

You don’t need to worry about transfers, metro changes, or carrying heavy luggage on crowded trains. The A1 runs every 5 to 10 minutes, and a one-way ticket is just €6. After a long flight, getting off the bus so close to your hotel feels like a real relief.

2. Heart of Transportation: Metro, Buses & Hop-On Hop-Off Access

Plaça d’Espanya is one of Barcelona’s busiest transportation hubs, which makes it a great starting point for exploring the city.

Plaça d’Espanya offers seamless access to the city via Metro lines L1, L3, and L8, as well as FGC regional trains, multiple city buses, and hop-on hop-off busses. Travelers can easily reach top attractions like Montjuïc, the Magic Fountain, and Fira de Barcelona.
